From Methyl Viologen to DDQ: Tracking C60’s Photoinduced Electron Transfer in Water vs. Organic Media
Abstract: Photoexcited fullerene (C60) can accept an electron to form a radical anion, which is detected via a secondary acceptor. In water, methyl viologen (MV2+) is a common electron trap, but it’s poorly soluble in organic solvents. Here we explore DDQ as an optimal organic-phase acceptor to capture and monitor C60’s elusive electrons.
